Microsoft’s prototype Xbox Kinect and 3D motion technology

Motion sensor technology designed for the Xbox gaming system is being adapted for 3D video communication systems.

Microsoft is developing a camera that creates an image of a room that moves as someone watching in a different location sways in front of a TV screen.

It is also testing light sensors in an experimental interactive dining table.

The software giant's chief research officer, Craig Mundie, has given Rory Cellan-Jones a tour of its research institute near Seattle.
