Instagram's Hyperlapse app: The future of smartphone video?

Photo and video-sharing service Instagram has developed an app that allows users to create their own time-lapse videos.

The Hyperlapse app allows users to speed up videos taken on their smartphone, analysing the footage to create a more steady picture.

By using a phone's built-in gyroscope and removing any frames in which the camera jolts, the app is able to develop a smoother end result.

But with a lower-quality picture resolution, is the technology an advancement? BBC Click's Spencer Kelly reports.
