Bar disruption: Pubs get a hi-tech makeover
Drinking establishments are more typically associated with unruly behaviour than disruption of the hi-tech variety.
But a new system which incorporates cloud-computing, RFID tagging and social features aims to bring them firmly into the 21st century.
The iKeg system comprises a sensor on the beer keg which sends information to a mobile app through the cloud.
By establishing how quickly beer is being drunk, it can automate the re-ordering process, as well as post social alerts to Facebook and Twitter users to let them know their favourite brew is running out.
But, will this revolutionise the image of the fusty pub once and for all?
Our North America tech correspondent Richard Taylor spoke to Brian Roberts from Intel, which partnered with US startup SteadyServ to develop the idea.
