Up to 40,000 front-line police jobs at risk

The Police Federation is warning that up to 40,000 frontline jobs may be at risk in England and Wales if the government's spending cuts go ahead.

It says 25% cuts would mean "Christmas for criminals".

The warning comes as Hampshire Constabulary announced it would be cutting 1,400 jobs - including hundreds of police officers - in a bid to save tens of millions of pounds.

Andy Tighe reports.
