Pope Benedict arrives in Edinburgh for UK state visit
The Queen has welcomed Pope Benedict to Edinburgh at the start of the first papal visit to the UK for 28 years.
The pontiff was greeted on his arrival by the Duke of Edinburgh, Catholic leaders and a 30-strong honour guard from the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
His motorcade then travelled through Edinburgh to Holyroodhouse, where he met the Queen exchanged gifts before both delivered speeches.
Afterwards the Pope set off in his Popemobile along Princes Street past thousands of well-wishers.
