New benefit changes to be introduced for single parents

Benefit changes which come into force today meaning unemployed single parents will be made to look for work when their youngest child reaches the age of seven.

Until now they have been allowed to claim income support until their youngest child turned ten.

The government says it will help thousands of children out of poverty, but critics say lone-parents are being set up to fail.
