Derrick Bird Cumbria shootings prompt gun rule plans

New rules on gun ownership are being recommended following a police review into the case of Derrick Bird, who shot dead 12 people in Cumbria in June.

The inquiry found that under current rules Cumbria police could not have stopped Bird from having firearms certificates.

He owned three shotguns and a rifle, even though he had convictions for drink-driving, theft and handling stolen goods.

Danny Savage reports.
