Labour MP Anne Begg 'surprised' at being made a dame

MP Anne Begg has spoken of her surprise at finding out she was being made a dame in the New Year Honours List for her services to disabled people.

The Labour member for Aberdeen South found out she had been given the honour around six weeks ago and talked about her struggle in keeping the news quiet.

The Scottish MP was the first wheelchair-user to be voted into Westminster and is awarded a DBE, also in recognition of her support for equal opportunities.
