'Sad end to good career' says forced out police sergeant

More than 2,000 of the country's most experienced police officers could be forced to retire as forces face budget cuts.

Sergeant Dave Hewitt has completed 30 years of service after joining West Midlands Police through the cadets. He officially retires from the force this week, aged 48.

He says he never planned to give up work this early on in his career.
