Family of postmistress 'relieved' by guilty verdict

The husband of a postmistress bludgeoned to death with a metal bar has been found guilty of her murder and sentenced to at least 20 years in prison.

Robin Garbutt hit his wife, Diana, three times over the head as she slept in their living quarters above the post office they ran in the village of Melsonby in North Yorkshire.

He had claimed a robbery had taken place and he had been forced to hand over thousands of pounds.

After the verdict, a statement was read on behalf of Mrs Garbutt's family, outside Teesside Crown Court.
