Lord Patten starts as BBC Trust chairman

Former Conservative cabinet minister Chris Patten has become the chairman of the BBC Trust.

Lord Patten takes on the role at a time when the organisation is about to cut jobs, but he hopes services will be unaffected.

Newsnight's Jeremy Paxman asked him to describe the BBC's purpose in one sentence.
