Formula 1 drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton front UN road safety initiative

Formula 1 drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton have met with David Cameron at 10 Downing Street, to launch the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety initiative.

One hundred governments co-sponsored the UN resolution establishing the Decade of Action, which aims to stabilise and then reduce the projected number of fatal crashes around the world.

In the UK alone there were over 2,000 fatalities on the road in 2009.

The global initiative also has targets for raising helmet and seat belt use, promoting safer road infrastructure and protecting vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists.
