Criticism of David Cameron's attack on absent dads

David Cameron is facing criticism over his call to stigmatise fathers who abandon their families.

Writing in a Sunday paper, David Cameron said "runaway dads" should feel the "full force of shame" for their actions and should be shunned in the same way as drink-drivers.

The writer and campaigner Erin Pizzey, who founded the domestic violence charity Refuge, said his comments were badly timed, coming on Father's Day when dads should be celebrated.

"There is a vast mass of women equally as feckless as the men", she said.
