Saline contamination case against nurse dropped

The case against a nurse suspected of contaminating saline at a Stockport hospital has been dropped because of insufficient evidence, prosecutors have said.

Rebecca Leighton was arrested in July after three patients at Stepping Hill hospital died, and her fingerprints were found on a contaminated bag of saline.

Greater Manchester Police have revealed they are investigating 40 cases of contamination including seven deaths.

Judith Moritz reports.
