Seaplanes retrace classic Schneider Trophy race route

Before World War I, French industrialist and sportsman Jacques Schneider set up a competition to encourage development of seaplanes.

From 1913 until 1931 teams from the US and Europe competed in a series of races for the Schneider Trophy.

After the British team won their third successive competition in 1931, the event was discontinued and Britain was allowed to keep the trophy.

To mark the 80th anniversary of the victory, seaplanes will follow the original route over the Solent on Wednesday.
