Riots: Chief constables say most had previous convictions

Three-quarters of people charged over the riots in England had a previous caution or conviction, Ministry of Justice figures show.

One in four had committed more than 10 past offences.

Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke said the figures showed existing criminals were on the rampage during last month's riots,
