UK soldier honoured for bravery in Afghanistan
Rifle Platoon Sgt Glen Gardiner was honoured with a Military Cross for showing "conspicuous acts of courage" during a recent rotation in Afghanistan.
When one of his soldiers was shot in the neck by enemy fire, Sgt Gardiner moved away from his covered position and into the open field in order to give first aid, while coming under small arms fire and grenade attacks himself.
Upon receiving the Military Cross, Sgt Gardiner said he was just doing his job and called the rescue "an everyday event" that had become part of normal life.
