Calls for Fuel Direct scheme to be reassessed

Some people on benefits are having to hand over a quarter of their weekly income to pay their fuel bills.

Payments are taken each week directly from benefits, and paid straight to the supplier.

The customer watchdog, Consumer Focus, says the scheme, called Fuel Direct, needs to be reassessed. It is concerned that some people may be left with too little to live on.

Paul Lewis reports.
