Christine Hemming denies intending to steal cat

The wife of a Liberal Democrat MP who was filmed stealing his lover's cat has been given a nine month suspended sentence.

Christine Hemming was found guilty of burglary after jurors watched CCTV footage of her taking the animal from the home of her husband John Hemming's mistress.

Mr Hemming says he was not surprised by the sentence while Mrs Hemming told Radio 5 live before the sentencing that she did not mean to steal the cat.
