Met police officers disciplined over smashing suspect's car

Five Metropolitan police officers have been disciplined for smashing the window of a suspected stolen car with baseball bats and a pick axe handle.

Another officer was demoted in rank for failing to supervise them during the incident in north London.

The officers, all from Enfield, stopped the car on a busy road in Edmonton in 2008.

Video footage shows officers smashing the windows of the vehicle before dragging the driver out and pinning him to the ground.

A Metropolitan Police misconduct hearing found they used unreasonable force during the incident.

Danny Shaw reports.
