Seven confirmed dead in M5 crash

At least seven people have been killed and more than 50 injured in a multiple car pile-up on the M5 motorway in Somerset and police expect the number of dead to rise.

Police say they were still trying to free people from their vehicles following the crash, which happened at about 20:30 GMT on Friday near Bridgwater.

Emergency crews say the cause of the incident is not clear, but there had been reports of heavy rain and fog in the area.

Phil Bodmer reports.
