Unison's Dave Prentis on strike: 'This is about low paid women'

The first of an estimated two million workers have been walking out as part of what is set to be the biggest national strike for a generation.

Chancellor George Osborne has urged unions to "get back round the negotiating table" and warned that the strike is "not going to achieve anything".

General Secretary of Unison, Dave Prentis, dismissed claims by ministers that the strike had been called while negotiations were ongoing.

He added the focus of the strike were the ''low paid women'' who were ''being asked to save six per cent of their salary'' for a pension.
