Christine Laird becomes first person to get benefits for life

A former Cheltenham Council Chief Executive, whose employers tried to sue her for £1m because she failed to reveal her history of depression, has called on the council to apologise.

Christine Laird, 55, has become the first person in the UK to be awarded maximum benefits for life because she has been told she will never work again.

In an exclusive interview with Radio 5 live's Victoria Derbyshire, Mrs Laird said she would prefer to be in full time employment.

Victoria Derbyshire broadcasts weekdays 1000 to 1200 on Radio 5 live.
