London 2012: Britain's biggest military deployment

More than 13,000 troops will be deployed as part of the security operation at next year's London Olympic Games.

Officials said that in all, the force will be larger than Britain's current military presence in Afghanistan.

More than half will help provide security at Olympic venues. Also involved will be the assault vessel HMS Ocean, the largest ship in the Royal Navy, and Typhoon multi-role combat aircraft, as well as specialist bomb disposal teams.

Jonathan Beale reports.
