Fast London Birmingham rail link 'closer to approval'

A controversial high-speed rail link between London and Birmingham looks set to go ahead after a report concluded it was the best way to deal with overcrowding on trains.

The government-commissioned study into HS2 is being seen as the clearest indication yet that ministers are preparing to approve the scheme.
