Lord Prescott alleges hacking 'conspiracy of silence'

Lord Prescott has said he believed there was a 'conspiracy of silence' between quarters of the police and the media to hide the facts around the phone hacking scandal.

He made the remarks while giving evidence at the Leveson inquiry into media ethics.

Earlier on Monday, Detective Assistant Commissioner Sue Akers told the inquiry that police were investigating a "network of corrupt officials" as part of their inquiries into phone hacking and police corruption.
