UK Border Agency backlog size of Newcastle-upon-Tyne

It has been revealed that the UK Border Agency has a backlog of cases equivalent to the entire population of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

A committee of MPs says there are now over a quarter of a million failed asylum seekers, illegal immigrants and missing foreign criminals who have not left the country.

It says the number is 'totally unacceptable'.
