Bells ring in first day of London 2012 Games
At 08.12 on Friday morning, thousands of bells all over the UK rang for three minutes as part of an art project to mark the start of the Olympic Games.
The firing of a gun on board HMS Belfast signalled the start of the event, in which Big Ben chimed 40 times - the first time it has rung outside its regular hours since the death of King George VI in 1952.
