UK weather prompts search for a tougher road surface

Pothole-ridden bumpy roads can be the bane of drivers' lives, but they are also a drain on council funds.

Damage from heavy rain and flooding not only causes inconvenience and cost, but in some cases can completely destroy a carriageway.
