Danny Alexander: Housing plans a 'balanced package'
The government has set out plans to revive the building industry, including relaxing obligations on affordable housing and, for a limited period, allowing people to build larger extensions on houses.
Danny Alexander, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said the response to the announcements suggests "we have got the balance right here".
He told the World At One the plan was "a rational and balanced response to the economic situation we find ourselves in" adding: "It's a good package for the country."
