David Cameron welcomes Chief Whip's police apology
The Prime Minister, David Cameron, has welcomed an apology by Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell for making disrespectful remarks to police who made him get off his bicycle as he left Downing Street.
Mr Mitchell denied reports he swore and denied calling officers "plebs" but apologised for showing a lack of respect.
Speaking at Greater Manchester Police's headquarters, Mr Cameron said that what Mr Mitchell had done "was not appropriate".
However, the prime minister did not answer a question on whether or not Mr Mitchell should keep his job.
