Maria Miller has 'confidence' in BBC Savile inquiry

The chairman of the BBC Trust, Lord Patten, has responded to government concern about the Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal by re-affirming the independence of the Corporation.

In a letter he said the Trust, which represents licence fee payers, took the allegations surrounding Jimmy Savile very seriously and that the two reviews set up into the affair would be independent and comprehensive.

The Culture Secretary, Maria Miller, said she had confidence in those inquiries.
