Clegg: Entwistle 'didn't need' to take pay out

The Deputy Prime Minister has said the former BBC director general George Entwistle "didn't need" to accept a £450,000 pay out from the corporation.

Mr Entwistle resigned 54 days after taking up the top post, following a Newsnight report that led to a former Tory treasurer being wrongly accused of child abuse.

Nick Clegg said the BBC's decision to pay him a year's salary was "hard to justify".
