Think tank claims private firms 'better at running prisons'
Private companies are better at running prisons than the public sector, according to a study by a centre-right think tank.
Reform said 10 out of 12 privately-run prisons had lower reoffending rates among those serving 12 months or more than comparable public jails.
In 2012, the government signalled a move away from wholesale privatisation in England and Wales. Justice Minister Jeremy Wright said Reform's report was a "simplistic analysis".
Danny Shaw reports.
