John Simpson: UK 'heading for foul up' on Syria

MPs are due to debate military action in Syria in principle only, after the government dropped plans for an early vote on British intervention.

The BBC's world affairs editor John Simpson told the the Today programme's James Naughtie that the UK was "heading for a foul up" as it would not "go ahead" with intervention.

He said that President Obama was "obliged to take some kind of action and it's just going to be really embarrassing for the British if they are not part of it on the American side".

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Thursday 29 August 2013.
