Queue targets make UK border staff 'scared'

UK border staff are "scared about the consequences" of missing targets, so prioritise managing queues "over other duties they have to perform", according to a researcher from the National Audit Office.

Louise Bladen, who led the National Audit Office's research team was speaking as the watchdog released a report which revealed customs checks for drugs, weapons and illicit goods had been scaled back because staff were under pressure to reduce queues.
