Miller: 'Significant progress has been made' on press regulation

The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Maria Miller, has told the Commons that newspaper industry proposals for a royal charter on press regulation have been rejected.

Mrs Miller said that the industry plans did not comply with some of the "fundamental principles" of the Leveson Report on press regulation, including independence and access to arbitration.
