Crime victims to get voice in court under new code

Victims of crime in England and Wales are to be given the opportunity to address the offender in person in court.

A Victims' Code will entitle them to explain how a crime has affected them by reading a statement.

Currently, judges read such statements in private, with only parts being read aloud by prosecutors.
