Press regulation: Charter 'good for the public' - Hacked Off
The newspaper industry says it is to appeal against a High Court decision to dismiss its attempt to block the approval of a new cross-party royal charter on press regulation.
Under the charter, a new regulator, overseen by a watchdog, will draw up a standards code and impose fines.
In a joint statement, the newspaper and magazine industry reacted by saying they were deeply disappointed with the decision.
While Hacked Off's executive director, Brian Cathcart, welcomed the ruling, saying it was good for freedom of speech and for the public.
