Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier: Animation

Computer-generated animation of Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier showing F-35B jet taking off from the deck. The ship is due to be launched in 2014, but will not go into service until 2020.

Two aircraft carriers were commissioned in July 2008, for a total of £3.9bn. The second carrier, Prince of Wales, is being built, but the Government has yet to decide whether it will be put into service, mothballed or sold, after costs of the project soared.

In November 2013, the cost of building the two carriers was reported to have risen to £6.2bn.
