Over 80s in UK 'to double by 2037', says ONS

The population of the UK will reach 70 million by 2027, with the number of people aged over 80 doubling to six million by 2037, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Most of that rise will be down to people simply living longer, though rapid population growth is also expected to be driven by immigration.

Daniela Relph reports.
