Social care loan scheme: LGA urge deferred payment plan
A national deferred payment scheme to help people pay for their social care costs in old age should be created according to local councillors in England.
The Local Government Association (LGA) says that ministers could set up a company to lend money which would be paid back from a person's estate when they die.
Several local authorities run such a system but the LGA wants a nationwide scheme and ministers say they are considering the proposal.
Councillor Mehboob Khan, from the LGA, explained how the scheme would work.
