Acpo: 'Policing strategy on gangs a success'

Deputy Chief Constable David Thompson, who is the Association of Chief Police Officers' lead on gangs, has said a drive to tackle gang and youth violence is proving to be "effective".

The government has hailed progress in tackling gang crime in English cities.

In 2012-13, the number of knife-related wounding offences involving 10-19-year-olds in programme areas fell by about 25% - from 589 to 439 offences - compared with 2011-12. This followed a 9% drop in the previous 12 months.
