Top general warns over 'hollowed-out' armed forces

Britain is in danger of being left with "exquisite" military equipment but insufficient resources to operate it, the UK's top military officer has warned.

Chief of the Defence Staff, General Sir Nicholas Houghton, suggested manpower was increasingly seen as an overhead and warned this could leave the UK with "hollowed-out" armed forces.

The British armed forces are due to be significantly reduced in numbers by 2020.
