Young and jobless: 'Rejection hit my self-esteem hard'

Successive rejections when seeking work can have a big impact on self-esteem and lead to things spiralling out of control, former jobseeker Emma Sparham has told BBC Breakfast.

She said she suffered hair loss on two separate occasions because of the stress associated with unemployment.

Her comments came as the Prince's Trust released the results of a survey which suggested as many as three quarters of a million young people in the UK may feel that they have nothing to live for.

The trust said almost a third of long-term unemployed young people had contemplated taking their own lives.
