Schulz: UK should become 'fully fledged EU member'

European Parliament President Martin Schulz has told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that he wants the UK to become a "fully fledged" member of the European Union.

Speaking to presenter Mishal Husain he explained that he "understood those who don't trust the EU", but is hoping to change people's perceptions by "bringing more order to the financial market" and "more protection for ordinary citizens".

European Parliament elections will take place in May 2014.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Thursday 16 January 2014.
