Church leader attacks welfare reform

RC Archbishop: Welfare reforms 'tear safety net apart'

The leader of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales has criticised the government's welfare reforms.

Archbishop Vincent Nichols said that poor families face hunger and destitution because of the changes to unemployment, housing and disability benefit.

The government said the measures would help some of the poorest families transform their lives.

The BBC's political correspondent Tom Barton reports.
