Gamblers 'need more protection'

The gambling industry has been criticised by the government for not doing enough to protect people from losing money on high stakes betting machines in bookmakers.

The betting industry is not doing enough to protect gamblers, Culture Secretary Maria Miller has said.

Ms Miller said the industry's voluntary code for gaming machines in betting shops would now be made compulsory.

She has also asked industry regulator the Gambling Commission to look at tougher regulation.
