Extra £140m to repair damaged roads

An additional £140m is to be made available to councils to repair roads damaged by the bad weather, Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin has said.

The investment comes after the wettest winter on record, in parts of the UK, caused widespread devastation to sections of the road and rail network.

Councils have welcomed the money, but say it will not cover the full cost of repairs.
