Nigel Evans cleared: Investigation 'fair', say police

Former deputy speaker of the House of Commons Nigel Evans has been cleared of a string of sex abuse charges, including one of rape.

The former Conservative MP, who stands as an independent for the Ribble Valley, was found not guilty after a trial at Preston Crown Court.

Det Supt Ian Critchley of Lancashire Police said the force sought to carry out the investigation in a "fair, professional and proportional way".
